Edited Sincerely
The nature of the edit process for Sexy Librarian has come up recently while discussing the project with
writers from two exciting new arts publications—Sadie Magazine and Triple Canopy. Sexy is process
oriented and as such, it was imperative that the “badness” of the original manuscript was preserved.
However, we didn’t want to lose readers in the first three rejected chapters; alterations had to be made
to the content that Harlequin received. Below is a short “best of edits”:
Page 29: “Audrey is a linguistically precise person. I don’t think she should say fuck unless she is referring to actual fucking.”
Page 63: “Not a mother if there was an abortion. I had to read this a few times to get that you were referring to the corn cob.”
Page 71: “Second use of the word cock is redundant.”
Page 99: “Not so clear. Maybe say “rubbers,” since condoms are not strictly contraceptives? This threw me off.”
